Thanks for nice notes. With price inflation I think I'm convinced to not get the '03 Clos des Papes.

Dale, As you probably know, I'm a big fan of S. Rhone reds, but I too have elected to forego the '03s. I've tasted a few and find them much less food-friendly than normal, and with '00 and '01s still on the shelves it's easy to save my shekels and invest more in '02 Burgs and Loire wines. I also have to keep money on hand for the case of '04s I need to put away for Baby Andrew's birthdays (still deciding what it'll be, BTW).

Hey, you can throw a case of '04 Briords in for a little over $100. :)

Aren't they bottled under fake cork? If so, no way they'll go the distance (as you see, I've given it serious consideration)

Nope, regular Pepiere is artificial cork, Briords is real thing (count on 11 good bottles).
