Tritan Wine Glasses

I just saw these in a promo from epicurious. They looked like good quality regular wine glasses, but the promo info on them indicates that they are a _lot_ tougher than regular glass or crystal because they are made with titanium and zirconium instead of lead. Supposedly you can put them in the dishwasher with no problem. They run just over $10/stem and come in several familiar shapes. More info at:

Do any of you have any experience with them? It's a small point, but I would like especially to know if they have a bead around the rim or not. I much prefer beadless rims, ala Riedel. TIA!

Interesting. I heard the name (I think) but never knew the skinny on them. After having checked a number of sites carrying them, if you put a gun to my head, I'd have to bet they weren't beaded. But my poor 17"-er is on its way out as I type, so who knows. Sure would like to test drive some of those big burgundy balloons for a long workout though....

Tom, I am but a simple organic chemist, and zirconium and titanium have certainly been added to glass before, but some of what appears on that page activates Ye Olde BS Meter. Diamond-like brilliance because of the purity of the materials? Yeah, right...
