Turley Vineyards and Paso Robles Earthquake

Jan 05, 2004 3 Replies

Hi Folks,

Does anyone know of any online sources of information about how badly Turley was damaged in the Paso Robles earthqueke? Tom S. posted a link to a Chicago Sun-Times article, but it had expired the day before I tried to read it.

Google searchs on "Turley Vineyards" and earthquake just turn up links to Turley's "earthquake" wine.

Thanks for any help!

Dave

Here's some info that I hope helps:

This photo & other photos in the related album show damage to Turley:

Here's a quote from the San Luis Obispo Tribune, shortly after the quake: Malani Anderson, tasting room manager at Turley Wine Cellars in Templeton, said about 150 barrels of wine spilled after crashing to the floor. Insurance will not cover the estimated $1 million loss, which will significantly impact 2002 and 2003 vintages, she said.

And another report from about a week later: Melani Anderson at Turley and employees are OK, one slightly injured by a fallen barrel. Her comment was: "the loss is not as bad as originally thought" and the tasting room is open.

There has been a lot of news from a number of wineries in the Paso area posted on the message boards at

- that's where most of this info comes from.

Thanks, I had wondered about Turley as well.

Thanks!

After posting, I followed another link posted by Tom, I think, and it ultimately lead to a report on all the wineries in the area.:
