Wine & Fish

Just go with the old reliable Sawmill Creek White. A very nice wine that will go well with all of the seafood being prepared. I believe the 1.5L was still around $10CAN

Chuck,

With the greatest apologies for being pedantic, LCBO is not an acronym, it is an abbreviation.

No, it's not. An abbreviation is a shortened form of a single word, such as 'et al.' for 'et alia/alii/aliae', 'lb.' for 'pound', 'asst.' for 'assistant', 'etc.' for 'et cetera', etc.

You are so correct. I had not even considered the exchange/tariff rates on that rec. For some silly reason, I assume that the US wines are priced in a similar fashion to that in the US - I do know better, but presist in my the error of my thinking. Thanks for pointing this out, as I had just gotten off on a tangent with regards to the wines available here at their US prices. Didn't I even remember how this thread started, with LBCO?

I see the same thing in the UK with regards to US wines. In London, Mondavi Woodbridge runs about 3x what it goes for here. I find the US price to barely be acceptable for the wine, but in the UK... well, I understand why many US wines available there are looked down upon.

Your suggestions of OZ and Italy are probably far better. I guess I should have mentioned a Shiraz (one from OZ), but I'm just not familiar with most of the lower price-points ones of good quality.

Thanks, Hunt

Long flight? A couple I know are going to SA after New Year to play golf... which is not played in Norway in winter... :-) Anders and btw, we've had the occasional poster from Hong Kong, Russia and Japan too. Even once a certain snipped-for-privacy@microsoft.com asking whether a given port was good value...!?

Oops, back up the cart - too much Christmas "spirit".

I retract that statement.

If you insist on being pedantic, you shouldn't include "et alia" (e.g.) or "et cetera" in your examples because those aren't single words. :^)

Chris,

I am from Ontario,. but I am new on this news group ie about two months. This group is just about world wide.

The LCBO has been on an Australian kick lately. They have many good Chardonnays and Sauvignon Blanc to choose from. They are warm climate whites so they have a pair finish where Canadian whites are cool climate and have a citrus finish because of a lower sugar and higher acid of cool climate grapes.

A Niagara Chardonnay or Sauvignon Blanc would be safe. It would be nice to know what the fish is to be. Poached or grilled or served in a cream sauce etc. Match your whites with the weight of the taste of the fish. Chablis is the light, Sauvignon Blanc is medium and Chardonnay is heavy. Just a rule of thumb. Wine is very personal and subjective it is art mixed with chemistry.

Have fun.

Excellent! I think I can even afford that on my law student's salary of less than zero dollars per annum. Even better, I think I've collected enough Canadian quarters that the laundroamat will not take which I can use to pay you. Sadly, shipping will probably cost more than the amount. How to exchange quarters for stamps or paper money is my next problem, I guess.
