Wine for 15 anniversary?

My partner and I just celebrated our 14th anniversary. Our 15th is October

1st 2008. We're planning a long special cruise. Probably either Egypt/Turkey/Greece/Italy itinerary or a Tahitian or Hawaiian itinerary.

For the most part we prefer whites. But we like several reds. Favorites for me include White Zinf (Barefoot is my favorite brand) Nobilo Sauvignon Blanc and Riesling. For reds, I mostly stick to Merlot and Chianti.

We also love sparkling wines. With a Spumante being preferred over a Brut.

So do any of you have suggestions for a nice wine we could buy for our cruise for the 15th anniversary? Keeping the above favorites in mind. Also consider I need something that I can travel with. I'd rather find something we can try here in the States (or ordering online) so we don't get something for our anniversary that we dislike. Then we can buy a bottle or 2 for our cruise celebration.

One other thing. I'd like to try and find something made in 1993 but would prefer not to spend a small fortune on a bottle, so if any of you know of a pressing that was great that year, it'd be a nice bonus.

Thanx!

LES!

Go for the gold, Niagra Ontario red vine. All else failing go for some Zinfandel lol. It's cheap, tastes oh so good and comes in strawberry. If I wasn't in AA, I'd be licking it up off the floor.

1993 is a great year for red Burg, but very expensive. Some decent claret, also going to cost a fair amount. Ditto Barolo.

I've ordered from Wizers in Oregon a couple times. Good store. Some '93 Chiantis are still holding well - they have some for $30-40 (about as cheap as you'll find for 15 yr old drinkable wine). Not great year but servicable.

If you want something from 1993, you want a long-lived red. Ridge Monte Bello 1993 was good, and I see some suppliers on the Internet that cliam to have bottles below $150 US. That's quite expensive for a bottle of wine, but what the hell, it's a special anniversary. Whether any of these suppliers actually have any of the wine is a whole other matter, unfortunately. Good luck.

Andrew.

If you like sparkelies, I don't know why no-one has recommended Champagne. '93 was a reasonably good year, and some of us prefer a little time on our bottles. You might find some vintage online.
