Wine-forum.com/wine

I just stumbled across this site and discovered it to be littered with posts from our forum as well as others which I didn't recognise. Anyone have any idea how these guys grab our discussions and post them to what seems to be a commercial site?

Chuck, They are simply tapping in to the Usenet news feed and displaying it on a website, much like Google Groups with a single focus: wine. The link you're using displays the posts from here; the "winemaking" link gives you the posts from rec.craft.winemaking. Nothing terribly unethical in what they do, but anyone with a newsreader will find their "service" irrelevant.

That raises an interesting point regarding Usenet and terms of use...

For instance, if you are using Google to post onto Usenet, I'm assuming they have a terms and conditions of use to the effect of "whatever you say can be used by us for whatever purpose we want to use it for." Now to the best of my knowledge Usenet is not a company, but rather a loose agreement of a stanard to run news groups and the means by which they "cascade" off each others.

So I'm wondering, if I'm running my own NNTP server (news.hipgeeks.net - feel free to use it yourselves) off Zen

's news server and posting via Outlook Express, if I have some sort of copyright disclaimer at the end of my posts, would it actually hold up? I doubt it.
