WTN: 2007 Christoffel Kab

May 28, 2009 2 Replies

Grilled some leftover hot dogs, served with usual toppings plus some salad and grilled squash,. Wine was the 2007 JJ Christoffel (Christoffel Erben) Urziger Wurzgarten Riesling Kabinett. Brighter and less creamy than its Spatlese brother, light to medium bodied with apple, blood orange, and strawberry. Not especially minerally, but clean and tasty, no shortage of acid here. B+/B

Grade disclaimer: I'm a very easy grader, basically A is an excellent wine, B a good wine, C mediocre. Anything below C means I wouldn't drink at a party where it was only choice. Furthermore, I offer no promises of objectivity, accuracy, and certainly not of consistency.

Thanks for the note. I recently had an '07 Meulenhof Riesling Kabinett that had very similar characteristics. I found the Meulenhof quite dry, almost like a Trocken in character -- how about your Christoffel?

Some noticable RS, but what I'd consider classic Kab, not like the Spatlese in Kabinett clothing of a few recent vintages
