My experience at a commercial winery was that they would sometimes stick in the open position.

Has anyone tried these? How do they work? How well do they work?

Have a look at the

"revisiting an old topic - carboy stoppers"

recent thread.

Same here. Still have the wine under airlocks, and will probably only try a few bottles under these for a few months just to be sure

I've used them for a few years with no problem. I make sure they start clean and if there is liquid pushed up through them they get re-cleaned. I've used them for a one year maximum not because I didn't trust them but because I need the carboys for next years vino.

Thanks to everyone for the feedback. My search had missed the current stopper discussion.

Sounds like a mixed bag of results, but I think the negative comments have scared me away from them for now.

I keep saying I'm going to try filling my airlocks with glycerine since this is not supposed to evaporate, but haven't done it yet. Does anyone here use this method? My storage area is so dry (I noticed it was 26% RH yesterday) that I have to keep a close eye on drying airlocks.

I've filled my airlocks with glycerine the last two years.... and I haven't had to refill any thru the whole bulk aging process. I say go for it.

Putting the plastic dust cap on seems to keep the airlocks from drying out. I use water and sulfite and mine don't dry out. I use cheap tequela and water when I'm cold stabilizing. Our RH gets pretty low too. Joe
