Worldwide weather conditions like that are rare, despite what you might hear about global warming.

Here in MO, we're about a week to two weeks behind on most varieties, though quality looks real good... so far.

Same here in NY, for the grapes that made it through the winter kill and the powdery mildew, and . . .

Of course, the 5 days of rain forecast for the next 10 days aren't too hopeful seeming.

This is the year of the "Harvest from Hell" for the Northern Virginia area. Things were not looking all that bad - until about 5 days ago. Whites - with the possible exception of Chardonnay looking pretty ragged where I am.

Harvest seems to be running a week to ten days late San Diego County. Medium size crops with very uneven ripening. lum

Dave,

How bad was your winter kill this year? Did you lose alot of vines or just canes and cordons? What varities were affected most? Which were affected least?

TIA,

Bob

We lost about 70-80% of our merlot canes and cordons. I'm not sure about actul vine death, but I think we didn't fare too badly.

Reisling and cab franc came through okay, merlot, pinot gris, gewurz, and cab sauv were probably hardest hit.

You can try at Lazio super market they sell California grapes. There are many other places may be you should look in the yellow pages. It is the time to buy them at the beginning of September.
