Is it ok to use those 5 gal. blue/clear plastic water jugs as a secondary, leaving the wine in there for a few months??

There are all different kinds of plastic. The plastic those jugs are made of is rated to contain neutral liquids. They are not rated to contain acidic, alcoholic liquids for extended periods of time. I would not use them.

I've seen commercial winemakers use those for temporary storage. I've used them myself in a pinch for short term storage, with no problems. I still prefer glass, but the plastic jugs are a lot safer to handle.

Theoretically, they should be no different from a glass carboy. The issue is whether you can seal the top adequately.... Bob
