Yes, it was his first public miracle. I just heard about it yesterday at my nephew's wedding mass. Supposedly, He converted seven 30 gallon jars of water into wine when his mother mentioned to him that the party was running out of wine. Apparently it turned out to be better than the stuff they'd initially served.

210 gallons of _good_ wine? Must've been one heck of a party! :^D

and how can you have holy wine of

Some of the Christian sects cheat on this point a little and serve grape juice instead - but that's not really the same, is it?

Personally, I believe that wine is one of God's great gifts to us all, so there's no need to feel guilty about enjoying it. (That's one of the things I don't "get" about the Moslem tradition - their proscription of alcoholic beverages.)

My personal experience with this is that grape juice is used instead of wine in parishes where there is a serious alcoholism problem or where alcohol has been one of the root causes of a severely dysfunctional community. To me this is an example of a church adapting to changing circumstances, something of a rarity, in my own humble experience.

Unless you are one of those for whom it is a great curse...

It is our lust for wine that is a curse, not the wine itself.
