Storing Wine in a Cold Cellar?

I store my wine in a cold cellar, which is great in summer as it is about

20C/68 max temperature (and probably average 15C), but right now in winter it goes down to about 4C/40F,

Do you think this can cause any harm? It will not freeze, but it will get down there in termp. A web site I read suggested using a cold cellar only if it never went below 10C otherwise store in your basement.

Any harm keeping it in the cold cellar....I really don't want to schlep it back and forth during the year from one room to another.....

Actually 68F a bit warm. 40F is pretty cold. The aging process may slow down too much. 55F is considered by many to be the optimum temp.

I would also be very concerned about the temperature fluctuations. 40F to 68F is a pretty big swing over the year. Daily fluctuations are of a bigger concern but 28 degrees over the year is still a lot.

Personally, I would look for a different place or maybe try to insulate the cold cellar to prevent the extremes.
