Hi ....upon trying to get a Brix measurement on the Cab Sauv Grapes I bought I find the juice so thick that I cannot get a reading at all.The hydrometer gets stuck wherever you let go of it in the jar.As it doesn't taste espesially sweet,I'm assuming that this is A very fine pulp I'm dealing with? Anyone have similar problems?...andy j.

You will probably need to strain some of the juice off to get a reading. The strained juice will give you a fairly accurate overall reading. However you say that the juice does not taste sweet. Any good wine grape juice should be quite sweet, sweeter than regular drinking grape juice as it should be lower in acid and higher in sugar.

When I meant not especially sweet I meant REALLY HIGH brix.......after straining thru nylons the brix was 21-22....very reasonable for Central Valley grapes.......even the Zin grapes I bought will come in at about

14% alc.......blended they should be about 12.5-13% alc.
