Wine years.

Exactly how does the year on a wine determine how good it tastes?

Truly high-quality, good wine starts with good wine grapes.

The vintage year of a wine basically tells us how relatively good the grapes were as a result of climate and is meaningful only when one considers the region and, to a lesser extent the variety. Although the year is still very important there is more a vintner can do to adjust for sugar, acid and tannin balance than was possible several decades ago.

The year is especially important for regions that are a little more on the fringe for growing wine grapes since they are more vulnerable to seasonal climate variations. For example in the Northeast U.S. and eastern Canada (Niagara Region of Ontario) the long, cold winter climate produced a lot of kill and reduced quantities considerably. Also, a good growing season can be negated by poor harvest conditions such as constant rain, early frost, etc. when the grapes are due for harvest.

Better study up on your numerology. 1947 and 2001 both add up to 3, so they should be equivalent vintages - right? ;^D

No shit Sunshine. Did you take my reply seriously? If you think I wasted bandwidth, what did you just do?

BTW, it is not a troll, he was just trying to spam his web site. Ed
