Fingers of head

Hi Kelly Jo,

might be there is such a site, but in fact I think it would be all wrong information, because head on a pint is not only depending the nationality of the drinker, but most of all indicated by the brewer. Because this man has a clear view of how his product, his creation, should be served and drank....

Say Guiness:

- in England just a trace of head, a faint idea of cloud as the high flying Jumbo leaves behind in the blue sky

- in Belgium: a nice "collar", softly wettening the drinkers upperlip...

Besides, I'd wonder how accurate it would be. For instance, what you just wrote: no head is correct only in parts of England (namely the south). In the north, about a finger's worth is expected.

Since a "finger" isn't even a standard measurement, I'd surmise that there is no such web page. Of course, you did an extensive Google search too, right?

Also, "local" != "national." Within a given country, the amount of head acceptable ("requirements?" WTF?) by beer consumers, or presented by custom, varies - very little head in southern England, a nice little layer of a compact head further north, for instance, or a fluffy, cloud-like head floating atop a "seven-minute pils" in some parts of Germany.

Duh. That's why I'm asking here - I couldn't find it on Google, therefore this is the best resource for such a weird beer-related question.

Well, that's why I was hoping for someone who was detailed enough to catalog all those instances of difference. But if not, oh well, I'll live. :-)

Wow. I'm amazed. I say that in complete and total seriousness. I don't know if you've lurked here a while, but you'd be amazed at how many people come in asking basic questions that could be answered in a minute or two just by googling.

Well, in the absence of any such catalogue, here (and rec.food.drink.beer) are good a source as any. People from all over the world, people who've traveled and drank all over the world, etc.
