If I did .sigs...

This would be it:

"What the hell do you want them to fit into their jingle, 'This is Budweiser, our interpretation of a style of beer that is incredibly popular around the world, but that is made fun of by a tiny percentage of geeks, this is who we are.'?" -- Lew Bryson, in alt.beer, responding to the usual Budweiser critiques, ca. September 2005.

It's been a while... WEll hey, alt.beer actually seems to be shaping up into a decent newsgroup once again. Mostly on-topic posts, not much spam, reasonable volume, and just enough flaming to keep it cozy. :-)

Being that it's that time of year again, anybody find any interesting new winter/holiday brews that they'd like ot share info on?

Sam Adam Imperial Pilsner. I've had 3 bottles of it now and I think it's great. I don't know that the label Imperial Pilsner works for this beer - I thought Rogue's creation was more "pilsnery" - but it's still a great beer, soooo bitter yet drinkable.

And there's no sign of it in Casper Wyoming. :^(

Rogue's pilsner? Bleh. "Drinkable" only if you think pilsners are supposed to have a heavy mint component. I'm still trying to figure out where that came from.

I was referring to their Morimoto Imperial Pils - I remember it being intensly dry - but not minty. At least I don't think so - who knows I am sure it wrecked my palate either way. All in all I would put the SA Imperial Pils miles above the Rogue version actually.

That's the one I had. I remember the minty clearly, because it was definitely a stare-at-the-glass, WTF moment.

That's the best descriptor I could come up with for the flavor. Whatever it was, a pils it weren't.

Sure is good with sushi, though. I thought this beer sucked till I had it with food. Wow, what a difference.

What's it all mean, Binkley?

Thanks, I'll have to search that one out.

I like the Rogue effort -- other than the fact that it's nothing like a "pilsner" -- more of a helles bock, IMO. Good brew, even if misnamed.
