Rogue Imperial Pilsner

Anybody here tried it yet? Opinions?

To me, it tastes like a malt liquor. Sure, an all-malt hoppy malt liquor, better than OE 800 malt liquor, but a malt liquor nevertheless.

Interesting to experience, well over priced at $11 a bomber in my neck of the woods.

It is neither imperial nor a pilsner. Dominion's Spring Brew was an "imperial pilsner", and it was also neither imperial nor pilsner.

I agree with McDan that it's more malt liquor than anything else. Last I checked pilsners were stylistically defined (in simple terms) as crisp, hoppy lagers, and somehow the syrupy sweetness of "IPs" condradicts that big time.

Thanks, Dan. The price was what prompted me to ask. If I'm gonna spend big bucks on 750s, I think I'd be better off getting some Unibroue or a nice Victory Grand Cru.

lol...I was wondering where Daniel disappeared to.

Syrupy sweetness....yuck. Those 2 words remind of the 120 Minute Ale I still have.(2 bottles)

Bill If you plaqn on buying Unibrou then get it now, as Unibrou was just bought by Sleemans of Canada and the have a habit of dumming down the beers of all micros that they buy!

Heh, I been here all along! actually I don't check in on usenet as frequently as I used to, I'm in the ratebeer forums more often...but the traffic here is low enough that I can go away for 3 days and come back and easily catch up on all threads (now alt.music.rush, on the other hand, at 500 posts a day, I just can't keep up anymore).

Well, if you took a hoppy pilsner, bumped up the malt and the hops by a bunch, you'd have their beer. But unlike Imperial IPAs that taste like stronger IPAs, this does not taste like a stronger pilsner but as I said, a malt liquor.

In theory, perhaps, you could bump up the malt and hops, but I don't think it'd taste like a pilsner. IIPAs taste like IPAs, only bigger, and imperial stouts taste like stouts, only bigger. I'm not sure how you could "big-ify" a pilsner and have it still be pils-ish.

So are you saying the Rate beer forums are worth visiting?

Those of us who spend our time there would probably say that. Lots of good info.

yup, there's plenty of beer knowing people there, although the feel of it is definitely different than usenet. The off topic forums are fun too. (pay feature)
