Went to the Augustiner Bräu in Salzburg yesterday for a couple of beers and a bite to eat. I was really impressed by the place and the atmosphere. I tasted two gravity beers there which were OK, but I didn't fall in love with them
The food looked splendid.
I can recommend a visit.

Unfortunately I'd just missed the last of their winter beer. Also they don't do off-sales, more's the pity.
Also be aware that they currently still allow smoking in bars in Austria.
That been said, it's an excellent small brewery with 2 beers, plus often a seasonal (I had their Marz beer, brewed for Easter) and a whiskey. And the food is excellent as well, for me the Koferbohnen was just right to absorb the schwarz.
I noticed that in a couple of cafes.
I had some sauerkraut at the Augustiner Bräu. It was excellent. Nice and crunchy with caraway seed.
Even the sausage seller in the Market Square sold bottled beer/lager on his stall! Mind you, there are no Chavs, litter or the usual chewing gum on the pavements there.
Been there, done that. It's the largest beer hall in Austria, and I too would recommend it. The locals call it Moellnerbraeu, BTW.
No, they call it *Muellnerbraeu* (or better yet, Müllnerbräu). It's in Salzburg's Muelln district. Best of all, it serves its lager beer direct from the barrel - authentic lager, which would probably be quite a revelation to the all too many who have no idea what proper lager tastes like.
Definitely not like the crap they serve in the UK!
A translation would be good for those of us that speak English. :-)

I provided one in this thread. It's actually spelled Müllnerbräu, and refers to "the brewery in Mülln," the district of Salzburg where the Augustinerbräu is located. As beer halls go, it's a world classic, and very much worth a visit if one is a travelling beer-drinker.
You're right about the spelling. I couldn't find my Austrian Good Beer Guide to check it when I posted. I did know it was a district, too.
You're right with your comments about the place too. It's do-able off the evening Ryanair flight from Stansted, if you use a taxi, before the bar closes. :-)
