Try asking some of your local micro's - they might be the best place to buy a few bottles from.

Light can affect taste and is why beer bottles are usually made of dark glass.

If you'd like the hops in your beer to turn into a magnificient "skunky" flavour that makes you wonder if you left the gas open in the kitchen, clear glass is the way. Direct light, especially in the green and blue wavelengths (ie typically direct sunlight or neon lights) can turn humulones into a lovely stinky thing called mercapatan in mere hours. That's why clear glass is a bad idea for beer, since it lets all wavelenghts through. Green or blue glass aren't much better, and should be avoided too... but brown glass does the job, protectig beer pretty well, which is the main reason why so many breweries use it. The ones using, in the contrary, green or clear glass show thereby that they care more about marketing than providing undamaged goods to the end user.

Try a short brown one then. There is a very good reason why beer is put in brown bottles and as a home brewer I would have thought that you would know that. If not you still need to learn more about your chosen craft. Mind you, judging by the question, are you sure you would not be happier drinking Bud ( American ).

Thanks for the information regarding why to use Brown bottles. As you are probably aware from the basic level of questioning, this is my first foray into brewing beer at home so you can expect me to have little knowledge of the chemistry. The current book I am reading does not discuss the impact of light on the beer but I will certainly look into it now.

What sort of quantity are you looking for

Probably around 50-100. Depending on volume of beer produced through the Winter months.
