Yes, it's a new drinking game, organised by North Manchester CAMRA.
The idea is that the team (or individual player) that collects the most miles wins. All teams have to do is pick a real ale in each of the designated pubs in Manchester city centre, starting at the Smithfield Hotel on Swan Street -
- at 12 noon on Saturday 30th October.
The idea is that teams select beers from the breweries which are the furthest away from the pubs (by the shortest road route). They can't choose the same brewery twice. And they win Beer Miles corresponding to the distance between pub and brewery (so much for supporting local beers!). The game will end back in the Smithfield at around 6 p.m.
Entry costs £1 per person. Teams just need to find themselves a name - a full set of rules and a score sheet will be issued on the day. The winner(s) will receive the official CAMRA North Manchester Beer Miles
2004 plaque. Which, if it's anything like the annual Treasure Hunt trophy, will be quite an item (bring a big plastic bag to take it home in!).
