Budvar

Does anyone know if Budvar is off the shelves at all tesco stores or just the Walkden store (near Bolton)? In its place is the American one that tries to pass itself off as the real stuff.

Complain. Tell them you want the real thing and not an extremely bad imitation.

At the risk of seeming churlish, could I request that you quote previous posts in the fashion I have re-arranged yours into?

It turns the series of quoted items into a story in logical order as opposed to reverse order. In this instance I have requoted all the material in your post but the normal pattern is to quote only the specific parts required for reference.

I appreciate that Outlook and Outlook Express fight against any such attempt at following the standard but there is a freeware product called QuoteFix (or OE-Quotefix in the case of OE) which helps people in the fight.

Don't worry, Amanda - this was deemed important in the dark days of the internet but these days people tend to concentrate on the content of posts rather than where they appear :-)

Well some do, and some don't.

Some were brought up to think of others and respect the way that things are 'supposed' to be done, whereas others seem to have been brought up to be inconsiderate & boorish.

Most peculiar.

It's a funny thing but I tend to watch films from the beginning through to the end. I can't recall ever having watched one in five minute chunks starting with the last five minutes and ending with the first five.

Rather like Tesco sticking the bad UK imitation of a bad US imitation of the real Budvar on their shelves. :-)

Indeed.

A while ago my local Sainsbugger's had Pilsner Urquell advertised as imported from Prague. I might have thought the name would be a clue as to where it had presumably come from. Maybe it was imported /via/ Prague.

Not seen "Memento" then ?

FWII I've always followed what I've believed to be the convention, that posts should flow from top to bottom, newest at the bottom ("no top posting") with as much editing ("snipping") as possible, whilst retaining the sense of what's being talked about..

Oh, and keep an eye on the Subject Title for "thread drift"- nothing wrong in that in itself in a genuine discussion, but change it if appropriate to the current subject matter.

Then maybe I'm just a Brontosaurus.

I have seen films that show the ending first and then use the rest of the film to show what led up to the ending. Some really good films in there too!!!

I also have experienced conversations with people which jump all over the place - funny, as long as I can understand the language being spoken I don't have many problem with those either :-)

Nothing wrong with the way you do it, Chris!

I've seen people kill filed when they deliberately ignore conventions to attempt to wind people up. Amanda made an honest mistake, we all make mistakes and some learn from them.

Back under your bridge please.

You should watch "Momento" - its just like that!

If you're following a thread - its much more logical for the latest additions to be at the top rather than the bottom. If you're not following it - well it doesn't matter does it - as you're not going to read it at all. But there you go - there'll be no resolution to this Big & Little Endian type debate.

Amanda did not make a mistake. You are over-bearing and pompous to dare tell anyone how to post!!!!

Totally illogical. If you're saying that those following the thread have already read the previous messages and therefore the only information required is the new posting and some threading information then you would quote nothing at all and rely on the threading. Sadly many news/mail clients don't treat threading information properly and break this so some previous info is required.

Logic thus dictates snipping of all unwanted material and an interleave of replies to each point. [1]

Fee, fi,fo, fum, do I smell a programmer?

[1] Rather like that lot above :-) Meanwhile poor old Amanda is wondering what on earth is going on.
