Family Friendly Pubs in Leeds

Can anyone recommend a child friendly pub near the station in Leeds which does food and real ale Saturdays lunchtime

C'mon someone must know some - then I'll know which ones to avoid. Ewan

There's a JDW by Leeds station with family area and standard wethermenu.

That's actually in the station, not by it. There are other pubs which do real ale in the station area (Scarborough Taps, Prince of Wales, Grove), but I'm not sure of the situation regarding food or kids, sorry.

I didn't realise the JDW had a family area, either: the Barnsley one has an 18 years age limit. I'll take a look in a couple of hours when I pass through the station.

Cheers

I was referring to the other JDW a couple of hundred yards from the station which is a lot nicer.

Hmm... I thought all JDWs had family areas now... possibly not.

There are a handful that don't.

They had to introduce them to cater for all the underage drinkers they attract :)

They have seating "outside", on the concourse - which doesn't specifically mean they like children, I've seen staff in another JDW in Leeds centre go outside and tell people off for having their children with them within the quite large front pub boundary - but is worth a try, maybe.

For what it's worth, the only good JDW in Leeds centre now is the station one - the Stick or Twist, the other side of the centre next to the Merrion centre, got ripped apart over a year ago and turned into something quite vile - removal of partitions, *bright* walls, bright lights etc. etc. - and the other one, Bankers Draft, is too big and nasty.

Ironically the best not-Wetherspoons in Leeds centre is Lloyds No. 1 in/near George Street, which as it was an original Lloyds No. 1 is quite pleasant and wasn't built/adapted to be solely a large noisey club.

There is very little in the centre of Leeds that I know of. If the weather is fine there is Whitelocks on Briggate.

If you don't mind a 10/15 min trek across town there is West Yorkshire Playhouse bar, which usually has one or two real-ales on.

Beer wise, Whitelocks has plummeted alot just recently - we've moved on a couple of times now because the beer has just been disgusting.

Whereas the Duck and Drake has recovered from its past poor performance.

And increased its prices to the extent that I won't cross its threshold again.

Bennett's Bank, in Park Row. I walk past it a lot, but have never been inside. I do use the one on the station though; consistently high beer quality.
