E,
What's recommended near Holborn tube? Pubs that is.
E,
For inexpensive (apart from the two Wetherspoons nearby) The Cittie of Yorke and The Olde Cheshire Cheese (Both Sam Smith's) Great decor! Or for more of a selection The Ship Tavern in Gate Street (almost an alley off the main road)

The famous Lamb in Lamb's Conduit St.
Nearest tube to the Cittie of York is Chncery Lane.
And also near there is the Old Mitre in Ely Place just off Holborn Circus. Faciniating little pub if you can find it.
Ahh! Years since I've been there, what a pub!
Drat! Forgot about that! Last time I was there was 2005!

Wonderful pub, well-kept Young's, but really much closer to Russell Square tube, innit?
Also the Princess Louise, much nearer to the Underground station.
The last time I went a group in front of me at the bar asked for a Stella, a J2O and a Coke - obviously not regulars at Sam Smiths pubs!
Yes, we met at the Ship - Deuchar's IPA fine, Castle Eden a bit dodgy of ones I drank.
I do know nearly all the pubs - just wondered if someone had spotted one I don't know.
Yes the Lamb is a great pub but too far for the folks I was meeting - they wanted the Central line.
Yes, Princess Louise, Cheshire Cheese and Cittie of York are also great, although Sam Smith's is not a favourite of mine.
The Old Mitre is a long time fave _ I used to work in Hatton Garden in the 80s. Went there a year or do ago and they still do the same sandwich rounds.

I ran across The Ship quite by chance while walking in Holborn a couple of months ago on a trip to Blighty. At the time I tried Marston's Evening Glow and Bath Ales Gem. I've added it to my 'Pubs to visit while in London' list.

Currently closed, surrounded by hoardings, or was a couple of weeks ago.

The Cheese was closed for what appeared to be extensive renovation back in late May, any news on whether it's reopened/looks the same?
Sorry, yes this is the one not the Cheese.
