JDW festival

Nipped into Middleton's JDW yesterday. Amazingly good beer. I was shocked. Manns St George and the Dragon from Wadworth was pretty good, Phoenix St George's Flag excellent, Brakspear's Organic Blonde, superb, Hanby Scorpio, a stout like porter was damn fine , Butcome Gold was - well - Butcombe Gold and St Georgen Brau Keller Beer outstanding.

Third pint glasses, probably 7 oz, government stamped and lined were very useful and should be adopted by CAMRA. Service was so good (by only one barmaid admittedly), I thought I must be in the wrong pub.

Any other JDW Festival experiences yet?

Ooh yes- been down in the afternoon today and yesterday.

Yummy stuff!! About 10 festival beers and 5 regulars.

Best for me was Caledonian Top Banana 4.1% and Atlas Latitude Pilsner

3.6%

I have had thirds of everything to try and then pints of these to drink!!

Roll on tomorrow!! And the next day ... etc

I found the Mann's a bit dull, but maybe that's something to do with the fact that in the 60s the taste wasn't for the hop-laden beers we seem to like nowadays.

The very enthusiastic and welcoming landlord at one of our JDWs showed us round the cellar. Everything was on vertical stillage and they have this automatic line cleaning machine which doesn't require anyone to get their hands wet.

well. I tasted it, and then read the notes: it's a Wadworth brew, and that explained it.

Anyone found any St. Georgen kellerbier on tap in the Wetherspoons beer fest? Can't find it in West Yorks.

It should be on at the Timepiece in Dewsbury very soon, according to staff there last night ("there are three other beers to go first")
