Lidle are selling an 8.6% German beer for 99P for 500 ml. Made to the purity laws as well. I don't rate canned beer very highly but I think I will buy some to take to vintage shows in the spring. It will be far better than the overpriced crap on sale in the beer tent!

Seconded! Last year there were three differnt places selling German beers. One was Bavarian, Paulaner, IIRC, but the other two were from Eastern Germany. TBH, I didn't find any of the beers *that* special, but they were the real thing and that's something in the UK.

The sausages on the other hand were absolutely wonderful!

The German Christmas market in St Annes Square is well worth a visit.

Have now vitised this years event. It's nice to be able to sample a few different Bavarioan beers but the big sting in the tail is the price : £3 for a half litre.

I have to admit we left after a whille and had some Krombacher in the Bar Fringe pub, at £2.40 a pint.

There's also a stall selling three bottled beers (brune, ambree and blanche) from an obscure micro in Normandy - I haven't bought any yet but will try and pick some up tomorrow (Monday) night.
