I do wish they'd stop selling keg beer with 'real ale' names. But then they're Greene King so they'll do what they bloody well like I suppose.

Well, at that temperature no one will know how bad it tastes!

it's OK tho, because "The new brand is an authentic keg beer"

So at least it's ot a fake keg beer then? which is what? - perhaps a beer taken from a closed-down distant Rutland, Nottingham or Oxfordshire brewery now being brewed for keg in BSE?

&

"we remain absolutely committed to brewing quality cask beer, which represents a very high proportion of our business and is true to our heritage"

Wheras this not only goes against that heritage, but also muddies the water of the marketing of one of the country's biggest selling cask beers. At least, if memory serves, Adnams had the sense to launch a new chilled keg beer as a distinct brand. cheers, MikeMcG.

You mean it has taste?

Lot's of things have taste, it doesn't mean you'd want to partake of them though. Take cat's vomit, I'm sure it has 'taste' Maybe not as bad as anything GK has to offer but putrid non the less :-)

You stick to the cat-sick, I'll have a bottle of Strong Suffolk, ta. In general I don't have a major problem with the flavour of GK beers (ranging from the 'perhaps a bit dull' IPA to the 'world class' IMO Strong Suffolk)

GK IPA's got a very mixed reputation amongst beer-fans - remember the champion bitter win at the GBBF? If kept well, I suspect it's a fairly fresh, fairly tasty drop, as many regional brews can be.

Their corporate policies however are much less to my taste & if I lived in certain parts of E.Anglia (& one particular Sussex town, especially) I'm sure I would be entirely fed up of both the co. & their beers. cheers, Mike.

Hi, Do you have an email address for GK? Have you let them know how you feel? I'd like to ask them what they are doing.

People living outside the GK trading area often don't understand the hatred with which they're viewed by people who do. This isn't just Suffolk

- thanks to brewery takeovers and closures, there are now large parts of England which are GK infested.

GK are cynical pubco monopolists who use their portfolio of bland nondescript 'real ales' to provide a fig leaf of respectability. They would dump cask beer tomorrow if they thought they could make more money by doing so.

I'm surprised they've launched nitro IPA though, since they've been banging on about how wonderful cask IPA is ever since the ludicrous CBOB award. They've only just put nitro Bellhaven into their pubs so presumably this will now be ripped out. If I worked at Bellhaven I'd start looking for a new job.

I agree Strong Suffolk is a very fine beer, but it hasn't been available on draught in GK pubs for many years.

Can't remember where east anglia is, in fact I can barely find my way to Marks and Sparks in Oxford Street to change my hardly hard earned yen into your Gordon Brown, tax me till I can't afford to live, monopoly money to buy a pint!

As I say, I've tried GK IPA once and it was THE most disgusting beer I've ever tasted. Strong Suffolk, I've tried. It was OK but it cost about 5 quid a bottle. Right now I'm having some Young's Old Nick and they're only costing me 2 quid a bottle! Hic! Gotta sleep 'cos tomorrow's cherry blossom viewing and some guys are bring some homebrew so things might get a little messy....

They have a forum somewhere on their "ain't beer great, mate?"-type website, I forget it's proper name. That said, rumour is they censored a load of comments from Lewes Arms supporters. cheers MikeMcG

I'm not a fan of the GK but recently I tried IPA in 3 pubs in a single evening. I found nothing in it to make me want to drink it again. It wasn't off or in poor condition - it was just lacking in flavour and character.

While it's no worse than the bland beers can be obtained from many brewers, including small independents, it definitely isn't a class leader.

Understatement of the century :) More like a "crass leader" :-)

I shared half a pint with my brewer friend in The Red Lion, Duke of York Street, behind Piccadilly and I'm sure it was not off, just revolting! It took us half an hour to get rid of that half (We hate throwing beer away) Luckily, the pints of Hook Norton Old Hooky we had ordered first were excellent and helped 'drown' the 'taste' of the GK IPA! I wonder how many cats' bladders they have to squeeze to produce that stuff!?

I was thinking about subversion tactics - posting up messages about my favourite landlord - Lou Sarm's, of the Loose Arms, etc. Keep the buggers on their toes, eh? - They don't like it up 'em! Bah! Don't tell him your name, Pike!
