I just discovered the P&DJ Goacher website
I had my first pint in England in the other (perhaps only) Goachers tied house - The Rifle Volunteers on Wyatt Street, but that was back in '91 when it was a Sheps house (and a great pint of SNMBB they served, too).
According to the ever-handy Quaffale
Royal Paper Mill, Tovil, Maidstone Rifle Volunteers, Wyatt Street, Maidstone."
Could the Paper Mill have been renamed? (although a google search suggests that 2 'papery' pubs existed in Maidstone - see
- "Papermaking Pubs - Two illustrations of public houses with names connected to papermaking in Maidstone, Kent - The Papermakers Arms and The Royal Paper Mill."

though, all that said, the fact that Goacher's own website seems to have no mention of Tovil or either paper pub is a bit of a worry . . .
