Pubfinder....

It came to my attention that a guy has combined Mappoint with the Camra pub guide and come up with this :

Hope too many of you don't get lost on the way to the pub, if you do, this could be for you ;-)

Just tried my local area - a distinct lack of pubs recommended by CAMRA. In fact it only has two pubs within a twenty mile radius ;(

Hint: the Good Pub Guide is not a CAMRA publication..

Indeed. That's Alisdair Aird's guide.

Let's not reopen the debate on the relative merits of the GBG and GPG ;-)

The GPG makes a much better doorstop.

It's a bit wonky when it looks at Salford. I wouldn't recommend the Olde Nelson to anyone now - it's been closed for ages, torched a couple of times and boarded up. And they seem to think that the very wonderful Crescent (which I do recommend to anyone) is in Irlam, many miles away from its real location on the banks of the Irwell, near Salford University.

Still, it's an interesting project.

I note that the Good Pub Guide itself runs a search facility too, at .

Just to let people know, I have set up a framework site for people to add pubs that they know. It's all free - to us lot as well as pub landlords or whatever.

Anyway, don't expect your local to be on there, until you go and add it... That's kind of how it works!

Have a look for pubs in Bristol to see what I'm trying to do... The rest of the country is pretty much empty at the moment, so please do add your own local(s).

Well I did look at Bristol and picked one at random (Mbargo) out of the huge list. At that point I lost interest as there was not a single real-ale or cider on the list of fizz available at this particular venue. Regards, Stuart Hudson

Ah, sorry, I didn't make the purpose of the site clear. The idea is to allow people to add ALL pubs. That means trendy bars like Mbargo as well as real ale pubs.

The idea is that you can check out a pub, and decide whether it's for you. For instance, if you're ever in Bristol, you will know not to visit Mbargo.

On the site you can search by beer name, or for pubs with guest cask ales or ales served straight from the barrel. That should give you a better selection for your personal tastes.

But, as I say, its just a framework. Why not add the pubs in your area that you think worth mentioning, Just put on as much or as little detail as you like.

That way other pub goers will find out about pubs that suit their tastes, and hopefully visit them.
