A chemist friend working in Germany described visiting one of the plants where extra C02 is injected into one of the big name German imports to bring it up to British carbonation levels! The concept of 'fizzy lager' really is a British brewers invention, one that far too many drinkers have bought into.
Whilst a lot of the continental beers I drink are diabolically hard to pour while avoiding an exploding head of froth, the actual carbonation levels aren't unpleasant and far from 'fizz'. The same cannot be said about most UK keg beers, ales or lagers, which seem to be competing with carbonated soft drinks rather than beer.
I second everything Laurent says about the beer. The brewery is located in a lovely area, too.
I've never seen it in the UK, anywhere, so I'm really interested in this. I'm not too far from Darfield, so I may pop down. It's pretty rare to get an unmanipulated German beer in this country, so it would be worth the trip.
