I want to buy a couple of bottled real ales over 10%. Are there any off-licences or supermarkets in London that sell any? As I only want a couple, buying on-line is not pratical.

Pitfield, formerly of The Beer Shop, London N1, have a great range of beer including their own, but are now brewing near Colchester, they do also sell at Farmers' Markets though, including one at Stoke Newington (next is Sat 16th Dec) - they brew a 9.3% Stout & 10% Stock Ale. Tel -

Not beers over 10%, but when we went into The Coach and Horses Hotel at Kew Green earlier this week, we found that they were selling virtually the complete range of Young's bottled beers (500 ml) at £6 for 4 in a nice carrying pack. Judging by the labels on the bottles, these had all been brewed at Wandsworth.

Pitfield is defunct.
Utobeer is tons better than Pitfield ever was.
Their hours are Thu 12-6, Fri 12-6, Sat 9-4.
Thursday is best for beer chat and advice. Sat (especially pre-Christmas) is ridiculously busy.
The search engine on their web site is broken. I've emailed them to let them know.
If only we had people like that in the Manchester area! Or maybe we do - if so please tell me.
according to their website, they are not defunct, just not based in London! Though they do mail order, or will bring your order to the farmers' markets that they attend, including one in London, as I said.

The beers from Utobeer are far cheaper at the nearby Majestic , I am told.
do they have as good a beer range?
Just looked at their website where it says they are also there Fridays
12-6pm. What a bugger! I went through there this afternoon, saw a lot of stalls but was more concerned about finding a pub. Will have a look there next week.Dave

You obviously aren't familiar with Utobeer. Not that they are all in stock at any one time but UTO's list is about 1300 beers long.
Majestic, pah!
Itwas 4 for a fiver til recently (at least in Horts, Bristol) - I was so shocked at the 20% price-hike that I didn't buy any.

Sorry I was misinformed- you say Pitfield goes to farmers Markets , I went to loughton Specially last Sunday, but Martin Kemp sat in his van due to rain & then drove off never to be seen again.
I've not been to Uto, but I knew they had a big range, I was surprised that someone would have recommended Majestic over them, hence the question. (I remember Majestic having a pretty good beer range, for a wine merchant) cheers MikeMcG P.S. Re Pitfield's no-show at the farmers mkt, that's not good service. Had you ordered anything? Either way, tis not good.
I have just discovered that my local Waitrose is selling similar packs of four Young's beers for £5. The only difference is that you get what you are given.
