Whats Brewing Cask Marque Listings

These are in every month and I am amazed at which county they think places are in.

This month takes the biscuit. Do they really think Windermere is in Lancashire!

Answers on a postcard please?

Oh dear, I know you witter on obout this group dying but is this really worthy of a post?

Technically, of course, parts of Windermere (and no, it's not called Lake Windermere) were always in Lancashire, prior to the Redcliffe-Maud reorganisation in 1974. And of course, many would argue that they still are - the 1974 reforms did not actually abolish the old county boundaries as you surely well know.

The town we now know as Windermere was once called Birthwaite, and was only renamed after the lake on the arrival of the Kendal and Windermere Railway in 1847.

So to be pedantic, parts of Windermere ARE in Lancashire. Perhaps you should 'take the biscuit' rather than lambast Cask Marque. I really don't see the point of your post.

As Lancashire is a "Palatine County" it is not possible to alter its bounderies unless by the edict of a King on the throne.

As it is some time since we have had a king our 'self proclaimed lords and masters' only created new areas of administration.

The 1974 reorganisation was just another political fiddle to keep power in the hands those who know what is best for us.

Tug your forelock to your new lords and masters.

Politician have taken over the role formerly the right of the landed gentry.

And we still vote them in and they still keep on fiddling.

Nero lead the way.
