Ghent (Belgium) suggestions?

After spending Easter in Prague (17 crowns - 37p!) a pint, I'm now off to Ghent for a few days beery enjoyment. I looking for ideas on where to go. I know about Galgenhuisje and Waterhuis aan de bierkant on Groentenmarkt, and the Hopduvel on the way to Ghent-St. Pieters station.

Can anyone recommend any other 'not to be missed' places? I got 5 nights to fill, so the more the merrier!

Thanks.

Dave.

Try het "Trappistenhuis" on Brabantdam, near Pres. Woodrowplein, as well as "Trollenkelder", Bij St. Jacobs (square around the St. Jacobschurch). Enjoy, Joris (Waterhuis a/d Bierkant is probably best of all)

Waterhuis was my favorite place to hang out in Ghent. Sitting outside, watching the boats go by on the canal ...

My advise it, since you've got so much time, jump on the train to Brugge. It can't be more than what? 30 minutes?

Then go over to that place on Kamel street 't Brugge. Or something like that ( 't Beerje?). They've got just about every beer in Belgium there.

Also try and take the tour at Streffe Hendrik brewery there. And the blonde there is sooooo good and fresh.

You could probably jump over to Brussels pretty quickly from Ghent to, if you get bored. Plenty of great places to go there. Morte Subite and the Le Becasse are just about the best places to go to drink Lambics.

Well, just got back, and did most of that, with some extras thrown in for good measure!! In ghent we went to the Waterhuis a/d bierkant (up to it's usual good standards), the hopduvel, Aba-jour, Galgenhuisje, Trappistenuis and the Brouwzaele. In Oostende, the Bottltje and the Ostens Bierhuis (conveniently located almost opposite each other). Then to Brussels for the Morte Subite and the Delirium Cafe (claims to have most beers in the world). Didn't particularly like the Delirium Cafe though, far too dark, took about ten minutes before you could see well enough to read the menu!! And finally to Bruges for the Brugs Beertje (quite possibly the best beer bar in the world!!), and the Garre. Also went to the Hobbit restaurant opposite the Bear for a superb meal. Huge amounts of meat, veggies needn't bother with this place!!

If you ever fancy a trip to Belgium then Ghent is as good a place as any to base yourself. No more than 30 - 40 mins by train to Oostende, Brussels, Antwerp and Bruges.

Now back to the real world.........
