Good beer experience: Grant's

Visited Grant's pub in Yakima, Wa. The or one of the oldest brewpubs in U.S. Or is it first microbrewery status that is debated with Redhook?

Anyhow, we enjoyed the comfortable setting, friendly service, and the beers: Tried the cask scottish and Hopzilla, with good results.

Recommended! Yakima isn't much of the town but cheap good produce abounds during the summer. Wine fans can tour the wineries. Even better, there is a wealth of outdoor recreation opportunities in the nearby mountains.

Oldest on-premises brewery pub in the country, actually. The first microbrewery status thing is the matter of contention. Grant's got its license to sell on July 1, 1982. Redhook is celebrating its 21st birthday with a bash at the Woodinville brewery and pub on September

13th. Bert's no longer around to get all cantankerous about it, regrettably.

The Hopzilla is one of the post-Bert-era beers. You liked it?

And for the beer hunter, it's not a huge distance further down the freeway to Sunnyside, home of Snipes Mountain Brewing.
