Most pubs visited?

Wonder if there are any web pages/etc about this sort of thing? (pub ticking?)

Ale tasters reach landmark.

Four beer-loving friends from the West Midlands have visited their 11,000th bar after a 20-year pub crawl around Britain. The self-styled Black Country Ale Tasters spend their weekends travelling around the UK sampling pubs.

They reached the landmark when they visited Bennetts in Birmingham city centre.

The ale tasters earned a place in the Guinness Book of Records after visiting inns in every county of England, Wales and Scotland.

Group member Pete Hill, from West Bromwich, said: "Our love affair with pubs started with Banks's, so we wanted our 11,000th to be in one of theirs.

"Although it may be a big surprise to people we're not massive drinkers, we just love pubs and everything about them."

The group started their unusual odyssey in 1984 when they decided to visit every Banks's outlet in the Black Country.

I've done far more than that, started in 1970s, so have a head start. I don't claim any records though, as I know there's at least one person who has done far more than me. Found him in Bourne once.It turned out he did 4 pubs every night in his car, just a half in each. JL

Even at that rate it would take you more than 40 years to get round every pub in the country ... 'fess up, tho', John, how many pubs d'ye reckon you've been in? I guesstimate I've managed only around 6,000 at most in 37 years of (not always legal) drinking, a poor record compared to many, I know, though I had covered every county in England and Wales as far back as

1984 ...

Hello Martyn

Well, I've never really counted them, though my records are gradually being computerised. Just to give you an idea though, I used to couint the pubs I'd done in the GBG, which (in 2000) was over 3000. I reckon that is approximately 10% of my total, though I won't swear to it. If ever I get around to a full count up, then I'll let you know.

Before you ask, I don't keep a database, my records are on Word and on paper.

At the end of the day, I would have no proof that I had "bashed" the pubs, as I often visit them by myself, so could never claim any record anyway. John
