Demijohn container question

Sep 11, 2004 6 Replies

Hi,

Just a quick question that maybe one of you knowledgeable people here can answer.

I'm after a large glass container (around 5 litres?) like a demi-john, but with a tap in the side, at the bottom.

It is to be used in a shop display, whereby a liquid can be poured into the top to fill it up. The liquid can then be dispensed in small quantities through the tap at the bottom.

I've searched all over the internet but can not find anything suitable anywhere! There seem to be lots of normal demi-johns, but none with a tap in the side.

Is there a special name for such a type of container?

Please help!

Thanks, Shaun.

There are MiniKegs avaliable all over that are 5 liters and are dispensed through a built in tap. The are not clear though so you would not be able to see the liquid inside. The price of these kegs are around 10 bucks.

gee, demijohn i think 50 litres, do you mean 5 or 50?Anyhow i've never heard of a demijohn witha tap. Never heard of a carboy with a tap either. Um what about a chemistry supply store? There are some interesting glass vessels that might do the job for you. HOw about a 2L separater funnel

? Of course you are looking at $60 US, but it's glass and it has a petcock/stopcock to controll flow.

thought about using plexiglass? Some bars here sell cheap draft by the "beer tower".. which is a plexiglass tube (5" diameter or so?) about 3 feet tall with a tap on the side. All the parts would be easy enough to find. Oh found one online, it's only 3L but it'd give you and idea

hope this helps, best of luck in your searches.

We'll probably use this one I think.

Cheers Stephen.

Regards, Shaun.

I just saw a 15gal demi with SS tap on the bottom. Someone is making them now, and they are getting common.

Hi Pete,

Where did you see that? In the UK?

I couldn't find them anywhere!

Regards, Shaun.
