Ardbeg after Laphroig - downer

I really, really like Ardbeg 10 and Laphroig.

And, every night before bed we each have about 2 oz of some single-malt. We don't "taste." We sniff and taste and sip and drink, sorta thing.

But ... last night, after we each had the Laphroig, while listening to some jazz, we decided to have one more. But ... I switched to the Ardbeg.

Well, it was like there was nothing there. The Laphroig was so overpowering, I guess, that the Ardbeg tasted pale and watered down (it wasn't).

The peat of the Ardbeg just couldn't compete with the smoke of the Laphroig. (Or was it the opposite?)

I'll never do that again.

Laphroig. (Or was it the opposite?)

Maybe have some water and cracker or two in between courses.

My experience wih those two malts is that ardbeg 10 is so much peated and smoky than laphroig 10.
