The reason I asked is that I will be cracking the bottle on the Sept. long weekend....just wanted to know what to expect. Did not think that the discussion would go this long as I did not think it was that big of a deal.

As for asking for opinions before I buy - what is the adventure in that? If I listened to the opinions of everyone in here, my experience in trying to find what I feel is a Scotch worth drinking would be very limited as 1/2 of the bottles that I have currently tried, I would never have purchased.

Well, opinions (preferably tasting notes) from people here on this NG and from MJ and other litterature can at least be of help to find out if the whisky in question has a style you appreciate and will probably/possibly like. I don't mean opinions like just "heaven" or "crap", but rather like if it's peaty or not, sherried or not, fruity, etc. The adventure is still there! There are many hundreds of different single malt to explore, and I for one feels some rough guidence is nice. Whatever...
