hi all going to be in scotland for 2 wks [isle of sky, glasgow, edinburgh, and points between]. like to pickup some good scotch for xmas gifts and such and a bottle for myself. trouble is i haven't drank any in over 30 years. i need some reccommendations for good scotch whiskey to be had only in scotland and the price to pay for it. thanx, rick

Hi Rick

A good thing to do when in Edinburgh is to visit Royal Mile Whiskies (Near the top/middle of the Royal Mile) and Cadenhead (Down the Bottom of the Royal Mile) and ask what they have to offer. Specially the last has got som really special stuff incl. their own hand blended gin. Cadenhead is owned by Springbank and is an independent bottler as well.

Let me know if you need any good Pub recommendations in Edinburgh and Glasgow :-)

PS on Skye you could check out the Poit Dhubh and see if it's anything. A good thing is always to try something first at a pub to see if it's anything

Kind regards and Slainthé

Steffen

Correction......Cadenhead (independent bottler) is NOT owned by Springbank but by the Mitchell family that - next to Cadenhead - also owns the Springbank distillery (imho one of the best malts around). Furthermore, the family just reopened another (former) distillery: Glengyle!

Hi Paul

That's the same to me...
