2001 Rubis CdP

So far not oaky at all, but perhaps a titch corked, the jury is out, but if corked it would be a delightful wine otherwise.

a tad corked, and maybe over the hill. margins were a tad reddish brown so after much agony, will pass on the rest. If I paid full fare I would be returning, as it was it was not as good as dinner (grilled chicken) but better than many.

Too bad abot the TCA. If a 2001 CdP is over the hill, I'd cast a very suspicious eye on storage. Thanks for notes!

Agreed. I haven't yet touched my '01s and, from my impressions of the vintage back in '03, I'd say that they're going to age better than any other year in the '98-'01 stretch, easily 15-25 years for the better wines.

It is hard to say if it was the TCA or storage that made this one seem like a geriatric patient. If I had the money to blow, I'd buy another and giveit a try becasue it showed some good characteristics, body nose, on the other hand a tinge brown on the margins. . .

The browning is what makes me suspicious re storage, TCA shouldn't cause any premature color change.

Have opened two 2001 CdP Vieux Telegraphe and Guigal. Other than still being very tannci noted no cork taint.

Update on Lesec and oak: tonight I got the chance to look up Lesec in John Livingstone-Learmonth's new edition of "Wines of the Rhone Valley." Sure enough, JLL (in the context of the Syrahs of the N. Rhone) describes Lesec as using "an excess of oak" or something to that effect. So, it's possible that he eschews the oak for his CdP and CdR, but frankly that sounds unlikely. Perhaps the overt oak might account for the wines premature aging?
