While rummaging through the cellar I came upon a stash of older Leeuwin Mar garet River Artist Series Chardonays. I bought a couple of case lots from the distributor who had them on close out as he had lost the distribution r ights. Last night I opened a bottle of the 2003 with pan roasted halibut a nd zuchinni. The wine was still pale gold and quite clear in the glass. N ose of lemon drops and pear pie as there was a sweetness to the nose. The wine evolved in the glass throughout dinner and each sip was different star ting with fairly tart citrus flavors then opening up and softening into a s mooth rich blend of lemon curd, almonds and gravel.
