SQN, Peter Michael, Pahlmeyer

We hooked up with some friends for an impromtu get together to watch the sunset and a dinner broke out.

With grilled fresh Gulf pink shrimp:

2007 Peter Michael Belle Cote Chardonnay-nice nose of lemon curd and toast. Smooth on the palate with Meyer lemon, white peach and a bit of mineral. Nice balance of fruit and acidity. "A'

with wild boar stuffed mushrooms and baby sweet pepper stuffed with goat cheese:

1998 SQN "Veiled" Shea Vineyard Oregon Pinot Noir-At first I though Volnay but it was lacking a bit of acidity. I was surprised to find that it was Oregon pinot from SQN. Light in the glass, nose of mushroom, earth and cherries. Red plums and cherries on the palate with quite a bit of earthy minerality. A bit soft on the finish and clearly on the slide it still showed quite well. "B+"

With grilled filet of beef:

1996 Pahlmeyer Merlot-Wonderfully mature. Sweet ripe fruit on the nose with a bit of cedar and exotic spice. Quite plummy with a bit of red berry and leather. Ready to drink with well resolved tannins and long sweet finish."A"

2005 SQN Atlantis Fe2 O3-2c Grenache-I must admit it's hard to keep track of the designations of Atlantis and I have no idea if there is any logic to the "Fe2-O3-xx designations but this is really delicious wine. Quite deep aromas of crushed ripe red raspberries. Very deep ripe flavors running from plum to raspberry to strawberry continually changing with each sip. "A"
