Small holiday get together last night at our house with a casual lobster salad, octopus and scallop salad (fabulous) and a shrimp mousse. I opened two whites:
1995 Bonneau Du Martray Corton Charlemagne-Deep gold in the glass showing signs of age. Strong aroma of apples...premox? The wine was a bit angular on the palate at first with typical Corton acidity and minerality. It opened up after a few minutes showing apples, pears and a bit of lemon zest. A bit tangy with acidity but still quite lush for Corton. The finish had that reductive flavor (I always think of hydrogen peroxide mouthwash) that to me is a bit unpleasant so I did sense a bit of oxidation. sigh.2001 Domaine de Chevalier Blanc-I still have a lot of this left in the cellar...thank God! Crisp nose of lemon peel and wet gravel. Essence of grapefruit on the palate with a bit of chalky minerality. A sharp almost bayleaf herbaceous note on the fionsih but really terrific wine. "A"
