My wife is in DC for a few days so I sopped at my favorite bistro for a glass of wine and a light meal at the bar. The bartender poured me a glass of red on the house and asked me to guess. It was reddish purple in the glass with a medium weight to it. Nose of oaky vanilla a bit of dusty cassis (which made me think Napa) and it had a plummy almost floral perfume to it. As soon as I tasted it I knew it wasn't California but French as the acidity and tannins were higher toned than most Napa wines. It had a medium body on the palate, red currant, a bit of spice and cedar but a touch too much new oak for me. I guessed 2003 Left Bank Bordeaux and found out it was 2005 Chateau Lalande Borie. On the list for $11 a glass. "B"
