I recieveda shipment yesterday of wines that I had purchased last spring in Burgundy. I forgot that I had bought a few cases of Frederic Esmonin wines and was surprised when they showed up yesterday. While unpacking I found a few bottles had been slightly damaged (stained) and I decided to open them up and drink them.
2007 Frederic Esmonin Gevery Chambertin VV "Jouises" 1er-medium bodied and color. Nice nose of red berries and cherries with a hint of smoke. Not overly ripe or concentrated, well balanced red fruit full of cherries. The tannins were a bit drying on the finish but that seemed to disapate as the wine opened up over a two hour period. A good value at under $25 "B"2007 Fredereic Esmonin Mazy Chambertin Grand Cru-A bit more heft and color than the "Jouises" with a more powerful aroma of blueberry, spices and black cherries. A bit muscular on the palate, full throttle fruit, asian spice, a bit earthy and a bit of mushroom/ truffle. This one had the same dry tannic finish but again it blew off after being opened for a an hour. "B+/A-"
Both wines need some time and I have enough to drink over the next
5-10 years.
