Champagne for wedding ceremony

There are *no* Champagnes, nice or otherwise, in the $10 per bottle range. If that's you budget, you'll need to settle for a different sparkling wine.

Thanks for the reply. Can you suggest a minimally priced Champagne? How much does one have to spend to get something reasonably decent? Also, what are good examples of the others you mention. CA would be fine. I realize this is subject, I'm looking for opinions to start with.

Agreed, but at that price you can find Vouvray sparklers that are superb, such as from Foreau or Chidaine, and though they will not be comparable to a good Champagne, they will fool a lot of people ;-)

BTW the $10 isn't a rigid limit. I found this Champange listed on the "Wine Spectator top 100, the list says NV so apparently it's made in Nevada (that's a joke ;-)

NV stands for nonvintage the standard for champagnes. Vintage years are proclaimed when conditions are optimal for the house in question.

For 25-30 you can find Champagne in large discount stores. some are obviously going to be better than others. there are so many options that one really needs to know the exact market area that you are in to push you in the right direction with brands.

if you want to try a Cava, there is a small artisanal producer called Sergi Colet that makes a wonderful Colet A Priori (available at Astor Wines in NYC according to WineSearcher.com) for $14,99 (5% off if you buy by the case).

Had several Duval-LeRoy Champagnes at the '05 New Orleans Wine & Food Festival. All were very good. Do not recall having had this particular one, and the notes are long gone. At this price point, and considering the other sparklers served from DL, I'd guess that it would be good.

My "house" bubbley is Veuve-Cliquot Yellow Label NV (it has always looked like an ORANGE label to me... ), but it is in the US$30 range.

The before mentioned Gruet (New Mexico) is an excellent alternative.

My parents were poor and when my sister married. the bridegroom came from a wealthy family and they suggested that rather than expensive champagne that few liked (this was the 60's) order Verve du Vernay, a pleasant sparkling wine, that was much, much cheaper. (In those days, the bride's parents footed all the bills). Well, everyone enjoyed it and knocked back large amounts so that the wine bill was MUCH larger than if they had bought the real stuff. Graham
