My girlfriend travelled throughout Australia this summer and has been raving ever since about a red wine that was served chilled (in Townsville in Queensland) - best guess is that it came from Brown and Co. (but not guaranteed)
Any thoughts???

..prolly Brown Brothers Tarrango. It's a grape variety cobbled together by the CSIRO (aussie commonwealth research body, now sadly undernourished by the current fed gov) in the early 60s.

Indeed it is widely available in UK. Tesco has it on offer at the moment.
I've had a few bottles now, and I find it to be at its best as it warms from a typical refrigerator temperature and "opens up". I haven't put a thermometer on it, but I guess it must be somewhere between 10 and 15 Celsius at its tastiest. Very nice.
