Dom. Faucon D'Ore, l'Authentique 2003

This bottle was a gift from the library of Mme. Beaumont, as they were out of stock and we were unable to taste.

100% grenache from 100+ year old organic vines, hand picked over time to achieve maximum physiological ripeness. Officially Cotes du Rhone Villages Puymeras, this weighs in at 15 degrees alcohol in spite of an altitude of 450 m. 18 month elevage in old wood.

Heavy nose of black cherries, tar and alcohol. In the mouth sappy, kirsch, round and not too heavy but good length and concentration (not overwhelmingly extracted), pits, thyme and garrigue. A classic old vine grenache, without going over the top, and a great deal at 10 EU depart. Wish I had some, but I will try and order some of the 05 when it is available.
