Duty Free Wine in Australia

Hi,

I am coming homefor a brief holiday in middle of the year and wanted to get a couple of cases of wine to bring back to the US. Does anyone know how to go about buying the wine I want duty free, or getting the tax reimbursed as I am exporting.

I really want to put together a collection of good quality wines to bring back and hope to get them at the cellar door or whichever store I need to go to.

Any thoughts

Thanks

Malcolm

The Tourist Refund Scheme (TRS) allows tourists and Australian overseas travellers to claim a refund from Customs of GST and wine tax on purchases of goods bought from Australian retailers. Travellers can claim the refund from Customs officers at TRS booths located at international airports or passenger ship terminals when departing Australia. The refund is paid on goods costing $300 (GST-inclusive) or more, bought from the same store, no more than 30 days before departure. At the booth the traveller needs to produce:

a.. the goods; b.. the original tax invoice from the retailer; c.. the traveller's passport; and d.. the traveller's international boarding pass or other proof of travel e.. claims are only available up to 30 minutes before the scheduled departure of your flight
