Austrian wines have never made it to New Zealand - thus I must confess to not have read up on the many recommendation posted on afw by Dale or Emily or Michael P.
However, later this week, Lord and Lady St.Helier are journeying north to spend a couple of weeks in France (and catching up with Ian and Jacquie Hoare and Michael Tommasi)
Unfortunately, we are simply unable to extend the scope of our holiday beyond Provence, the Correze and Paris; (sorry Herr Pronay - we would love to get to Austria - and will do so - but not this time!!!) - but we will be spending a few days in London (I must catch up with a few of my gin-swilling mates at the House of Lords again!) - so, it is my intention to seek and purchase a couple of bottle of quality Grüner Veltliner whilst in London.
OK - I am aware that "Smaragd" is a designation of quality and that Wachau, Kamptal and Kremstal are the best regions - but can anyone give me any other hints which I should look for in my search for a quality wine, which I can use to totally stump my friends on New Years Eve - when we traditionally play Wine Options"
As to what may be available in the UK is anyone's guess, but if anyone can give me a couple of hints, I would be grateful.
