I have an Italian Wine - Need help

Many years ago, the director of an Italian company gave me a bottle of wine as a gift. This wine has it's own solid wooden box and is still sealed.

I'm not really a wine drinker, but this has been in my possession for many years, saving for that special occassion. l;) Someone at the time told me to lie it on its side, and so I did.

I don't intend to drink it, so I'm thinking of selling it. As I also don't know anything about wines, if I supply all the detail/labels etc can someone tell me if this is worth much?

Here are the details.........

The box:-

Wooden. 19"x5.5"x6". With a rope handle.

BAROLO. D.O.C.G 82 Da uve della Caseina Arione in Serralunga d'Alba

Inbottigliato nella Cantina

Gigi Rosso

in Castiglione Falletto (Cn)

The Wine Label:-

BAROLO denominazione di origine controllata e garantita

Vendemmia 1982

Riserva

Da uve della Cascina Arione in Serralunga d'Alba

Imbottigliato nella Cantina

Gigi Rosso

in Castiglione Falletto (Cn)

3L 13.5%vol R.J 222/Cn

Neck Seal:-

AAA 41276 SERIE A 220

Thanks in advance!

Gigi Rosso is a very good winery and 1982 was an excellent year---depending on how well the wine was stored---65 better than 75 degrees-no major temperature variation--- plus or minus 5 degrees.

If you have one bottle, your chances of selling it is difficult just because people who buy a relatively recent wine want more then 1 bottle.

Gigi Rosso while very good is not a wine sought out by collectors. Go for it & plan a meal around it.

Thanks for a reply so soon. I'm in the UK BTW.

The bottle is absolutely huge. It's 3 Litres, so I'll need more than

1 meal to finish this off! ;)

The large format means two things: 1) It'll age more slowly than a normal (750 mL) bottle; 2) It'll be of more interest in the aftermarket. Still, as Joe points out, 1 bottle isn't easy for a consumer to resell. As I am unfamiliar with the laws of the UK, I'd suggest that you talk to a local wine merchant about the existence of merchants who can buy wine from consumers for resale.

Quadruple since it's a double magnum.

More than excellent: since this is a Riserva, it has aged for at least 62 months instead of 3 years.
